Bob Amen – sad news

September 2, 2009 by tam68

The following message from Paul Erskine and forwarded by Nancy Larsen Dunbar was received on Aug. 13, 2009:

Hi Nancy,
I am sad to tell you if you don’t already know, that Bob Amen was killed in a motorcycle VS auto accident on the Point Reyes/ Petaluma Road Wednesday night.
Bob had just bought a new Ducati which was his pride and joy, he was heading home from work to have dinner with his wife, mother and brother John and was struck by a van which apparently strayed over the centerline.
I don’t know anything about memorial services at this point, but I thought you might be a good conduit to relay the sad news.
We had been friends for over 50 years.
Take Care,
Paul

Lynn Jolley Sossamon added this:

Hi Nancy,

This morning I did some digging online and found the attached link to an obituary for Bob Amen.  No funeral home was listed, but there is an online Guest Book that people can use if they want share memories.  Please pass this information on to our classmates. The link is  http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/pressdemocrat/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=131260455. Thank you!

Best regards,
Lynn

Class of ‘68 on Facebook

September 2, 2009 by tam68

Received from Nancy Larsen Dunbar…

Good morning,

* I have created a new group page on Facebook entitled Tamalpais High School Class of 68; a place where we can all share our ideas, comments, and opinions and a place for announcements.  I’m hoping this makes it easier to post an entry and directly comment on it.  I will still be happy to forward e-mails, since not everyone likes, nor uses, Facebook.  You can also RSVP for the upcoming party right there. So, check it out and join our group.
* For our upcoming reunion party at the Cruising Club, our guest list for the man at the door is being made from your RSVPs.  Since it is a private, members-only club, you have to RSVP, or you won’t be let on board.  If you know someone who is still a Maybe, encourage them to RSVP to get their name on the list.  We are already up to over 30 guests,
more every day.  Hope to see you all there on the 6th!

Peace,
Nancy Larsen Dunbar

2009 Class of ‘68 gathering

September 2, 2009 by tam68

Why wait another ten years to get together?  How about an annual informal reunion once a year with no fancy clothes, no checks to mail , and no tickets?  Shall we try it this year and if we like it, do it again?
Sunday, September 6 the Sausalito Cruising Club will welcome us again with a cash bar and $15 buffet* available.
All they request is a rough idea of how many of us will show up.  So please RSVP.

Sunday, September 6    5:30 p.m.
Sausalito Cruising Club
300 Napa St. behind Dunphy Park, Sausalito

*buffet includes hors d’oeuvres, a selection of pasta, including vegetarian, salads and a main dish.

More on Bruce…

March 24, 2009 by tam68
Received from Lanita…
Bruce Hildreth had a wonderful send-off on Sunday  3/22  at his softball field at the College of Marin.  The sun came out by 2 pm and, with the scent of barbecuing hotdogs in the air, around 200 people sat on bleachers and folding chairs and heard heart-felt stories of life with Bruce. A number of classmates from Tam were there and are now the proud owners of tee shirts showing “the Blue Bomber” .As the 2 hours of stories wound down and folks started heading to the food, the rain returned in big plops!  Our magical gentle giant…..lanita

Bruce Hildreth

March 18, 2009 by tam68

Very sad news received today from Nancy Larsen Dunbar…

Bruce died yesterday of heart failure.  I met Bruce in kindergarten at Old Mill School.
He was always, I mean always, the nicest boy in school, which was to his credit since he was also the tallest, towering over his best friends, Wayne Wilcox and Steve Neely, who were the shortest!
He took care of his friends.  He used to walk me home from school which was way out of his way.
We are lucky we just got a chance to see him again at the reunion.
Rest in peace, Bruce.
Love, Nancy

“…it was a spectacular evening!”

September 30, 2008 by tam68

To quote one 40th Reunion attendee, “… it was a spectacular evening!”

Arriving at the foot of the gangplank, guests were welcomed by “Charlie” and adorned with leis that twinkled red and blue — quite a sight, once night fell! The weather was warm and clear and Richardson Bay sparkled as the sun set and lights came on. Another classmate asked, “Who do you have an ‘in’ with to request and get the perfect weather from?”

The food was yummy and plentiful, conversations flowed nonstop, and the Jackie Payne Steve Edmonson Band was HOT; they had people up on their feet dancing from their first note. Even the recorded music was specially assembled and evoked fond memories; all from 1964-68 and interspersed with station I.D.’s and jingles from our favorite local radio stations during the 60s — KSAN, KMPX, KYA, KSOL, KFRC, etc.

Once the party had been going for a while, Melissa Wuoltee and Steve Bajor made brief remarks, including remembering our classmates who had passed away. In addition, the Mill Valley Film Festival screening on Oct. 5th at 12:00 PM, of Reunion, “Filmmaker Mike Goldstein['s] … loving centennial tribute to Marin County’s famed Tamalpais High School,” was announced. If you have an opportunity, check out this wonderful documentary — our very own classmate, Ron Blasingame, is prominently featured!

Steve acknowledged the special time and place Tam’s Class of ‘68 occupied by quoting the opening line from A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

For evidence of our superlative event, the first of Saturday evening’s photos are up on Photobucket. Keven Seaver posted 57 stills and 1 video. Check them out…. more to come. And, if you took pics and/or video, please post to, http://photobucket.com/tam68 (email Tam68lan@aol.com — if you need the password).

I wasn’t able to attend Sunday’s picnic at Boyle Park, but all reports indicate it was great fun and allowed for more leisurely conversation. And, word has it that several people are lobbying for some sort of yearly event. What do you think? Don’t forget to add your own comments about the reunion and picnic to this blog. Let’s keep the connection going!

Thanks to the committee and all who attended, for making this “a spectacular evening.” -Shannon

Photobucket account

September 3, 2008 by tam68

I’ve set up a Photobucket account for the Class of ‘68, where class members can share photos. It’s a private album, so only those who know the URL and the password can view and upload pictures. Please email: Tam68Lan@aol.com or thymebndt@att.net for the URL and password. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 27th! -Shannon
